A King Came to Earth

by Tammy on December 25, 2017

It all started before the creation of the universe. When God conceived of creation, He saw, in him omniscience, a fallen humanity that needed to be rescued. So before the first word was spoken, the plan was in place. Two thousand years ago, when the fullness of time was complete, God sent His Son Jesus to this cold, cruel earth to live among cold, cruel men in order to fulfill God’s plan. And when it was time, he died a cold, cruel death nailed to the coldest and cruelest torture device ever conceived by cold, cruel men. But the story did not end in death, and it is not finished yet. Jesus was victorious over death and he rose from the tomb, giving hope to hopeless people. The King of Glory shed His blood so that sinful people would not have to. He died the death I deserved, rose victorious, and ascended to heaven to sit at the right hand of the Father and to intercede on my behalf. So when I think about Christmas, I do not think solely of the babe in a manger. I do not think only of shepherds and wise men and star that made nighttime seem like daytime. I think of a Man who walked dusty roads in the Middle East to proclaim the good news of God’s kingdom to a largely deaf audience, and I remember that everything He did, He did for me.

In the book of Revelation, Jesus is the conquering king, but he is still portrayed as a lamb who’d been slain. Humble and obedient to the death, yet victorious and authoritative in his resurrection. Let us bow our knee to the King of Glory who came to earth two thousand years ago just for us. Coram deo and merry Christmas!
