I Got It!

by Tammy on April 13, 2018

Today was my last sub job. It was for a fourth grade class at Betz Elementary. Yesterday afternoon I got a call from the school secretary telling me that they had a field trip to Fontenelle Forest today, so I was allowed to wear jeans and tennis shoes. Overall it was an easy day, but I find fourth grade classes a little trying. They tend to be know-it-all’s and there were about four kids with some behavior issues. I think if I’d had to teach all day I would have pulled my hair out by 3:15pm, but we had a nice three hour break in the middle of the day and then lots of recess to end the day, so it was all good. I honestly am not going to miss subbing too much. It is rewarding in its own way and I love the flexibility, but it is also very unpredictable and some days are just hard.

Anyway, while we were at the forest listening to the presentation, my phone rang and it was Columbia Southern University. I excused myself and took the call outside, suspecting it was a job offer and it was! I am so relieved that I didn’t have to go through the weekend not knowing whether or not I had gotten the job. I am not as excited as I thought I would be, but I would have been very disappointed if I hadn’t gotten it. I found out today that I will be working on the same floor as April, so that will be awesome. My start date is May 2nd, so I need to enjoy the next couple of weeks of freedom before I’m tied down once again to an 8-5 job.

My plan for the weekend is to start working on my assignments for my classes that start on Monday. Dan is my professor for the quantitative statistics class, so at least I know I’ll be cut a bit of slack there. In my other class, I have one of the same teachers I had last session. She is not my favorite, but overall I think she’s a decently fair grader. She did downgrade me for a couple of late assignments that I asked for extensions on, but I still ended up with an A in the class, so I will not complain. I also plan to start packing up the canned goods in my pantry. I have a feeling next week is going to fly. On Monday I have to drive about forty-five miles to get a drug test. Unfortunately, the collection site in Omaha must have closed. :( Oh well, it will give me and Dan some quality time together, lol. On Tuesday I’m having the A/C serviced since it’s supposed to warm back up after winter makes another unwelcome return this weekend. They are calling for blizzard conditions about 100 miles northwest of where I live and about an inch or two of snow here. I cannot believe that we are getting this crappy weather in the middle of April, but I really shouldn’t be surprised since I’ve lived in the Midwest for most of my life. Two more weeks and I will never have to see snow again unless I choose to. The rest of the week is pretty much open, so I will use that time to pack and to start cleaning areas where the pets don’t go. I’ll probably start in the basement and work my way up. I think we will spend Thursday and Friday nights at my mom’s house (two weeks from now). That way all the animals will be there and I can come back here on Friday and spend the day cleaning the rest of the house. We plan to pull out early on April 28th. It will be a long trip, but once we are there, that stress will be behind us and then we can just focus on closing on and moving into our new home.

Well, it’s getting late, so I think I’ll wrap this up and head up to bed. I hope y’all have a nice and WARMER weekend than I’m in for. <3

Congratulations Tammy. Looks like everything is moving along nicely. Time is moving quickly and and soon you will be in your new home! So you will be close to the beach? How far from Florida? So will you have to get new clothes for work? I bed April is excited. I bet your mom will be sad. Have a great week! Hugs
