One Week Down

by Tammy on May 5, 2018

I made it through my first week of work and we have survived our first several days in the camper. I am so very thankful that we have a place to live while waiting to close on our new home, but I have to say that I am also very thankful that I have a job to go to during the week, because it is super cramped with three dogs and two people. If Ben was staying with us, it would be even worse. Maddie tends to hide behind our recliners and Emma lays on a dog bed out of the way, but Hailey lays right in the middle of the floor and we trip over her constantly. On top of that, we have a lot more stuff that we brought with us (last minute stuff that didn’t make it on the truck), and we have no room to put it all. There are dirty clothes on the floor since clean clothes are in the laundry bag, and since our gray tank is not functional, dirty dishes sit on the counter until I wash them in batches. Again, I am very thankful to have a roof over my head, but I am so ready to have some space to move around in.

My first week of work went ok. The first day was orientation and the last two days were quasi-training days. I learn best by doing, so watching someone only helps in so-far-as I get an idea of what the process looks like. I am eager to get started actually working, which shouldn’t take too long. There is another lady who just started doing the job three weeks ago and she is already on her own. I really like the director of the department. I know her from when I last worked there. She is super sweet and very accommodating. She is giving me the time off to close on the house Tuesday without making it up, and she keeps telling me how happy she is to having me working in her department. I feel very welcome there.

Yesterday our house in Omaha closed, so at the moment we are not homeowners. I feel very relieved and not at all sad, to be honest. I am sure our buyers will be happy there. They have a large family and it will be nice for them to have some space to move around in. They are gaining about 1300 sq ft and and an extra bathroom. That house was really way to big for us. After April moved out we had two spare bedrooms and the basement hasn’t really been used for years. I am looking forward to having a smaller space to manage.

Today I have three things on my agenda: I want to finish my paper that was due last Monday, shop for new recliners since we gave our old ones to Matt, and go to the beach. It is going to be another beautiful day, so I want to get at least an hour in. I also probably need to stop by a grocery store and pick up a few things. I will need lunch for work at least on Monday. Tuesday I will probably grab something after we close on the house and before I go back to work and Wednesday we are going out as a department, so I’ll be covered. By Thursday we should be living in our house, so I’ll be able to do a real grocery shopping trip. I have lots of canned goods, but very few fresh items. I need to get back to eating fruits and vegetables. I like being able to eat as much as I want, and I cannot do that when I eat the SAD (standard American diet). My pants are already getting tight and I am NOT happy about it.

I guess I should get working on my paper. I have about a page and a half out of three required pages, so if I just hunker down for about an hour and do it, I will have one thing I can cross off my list. Then I can go have fun.

Hi Tammy, glad things are working out for you. I bet you are so excited! I just updated my blog and changed the theme a bit. After July I will change it to the beach theme and leave it there until after we come back from Hawaii. Do you ever miss playing with your graphics? I have lost a few of my sets. A couple of my cd’s stopped working. I had things from Country Patch that I can’t find. There was a pamper exercise set I wanted to use. So excited for you! Hugs
