I Need More Time

by Tammy on May 19, 2018

Yay for the weekend! I haven’t truly appreciated weekends for awhile, but now I sure do. I woke up at 5:45 this morning and worked on the kitchen for an hour and a half. I hoped that I would be able to sleep until at least 6:30, but my body is just too used to waking up early. My goal for today is to get a bit more of the house put together. I need Dan to do a few things before I can make much progress, though, and he is kind of swamped with work, so I guess I’ll have to wait and see what he can get done. I don’t have much hope that pictures will get hung this weekend. Thankfully next weekend is a three-day weekend, so maybe we can finally get everything done then.

Yesterday I got off work a half an hour early hoping that we could get our new driver’s licenses, but when we got there at 2:45, they were already full, so we didn’t get that done. I am thinking about asking if I can come in late one morning next week or leave in the middle of the day on Friday for a couple of hours to get it done. Next Friday is the “Spring Fling,” which is just a fun time for employees to play volleyball and dodge ball and eat. We will turn the phones off for the day at 10:00am, so I wouldn’t actually be missing out on work. Of course employees are required to stay for the duration of the event, but at least I wouldn’t feel like such a slacker if I left during a fun event, and of course I would still make up my time over the course of the pay period.

Speaking of pay, I got my first paycheck yesterday. It’s hard to believe I’ve been there for two weeks already. I am trained now, so on Monday I will be on my own. Everyone seems surprised, but honestly, this job is like second nature to me. Aside from a few suggestions and something I may have missed that she would have pointed out, my trainer hasn’t really had to correct anything I’ve done. By yesterday, she was just skimming my papers and giving me the go ahead to send them. My job is to basically look over papers that students submit for review and give them suggestions for improvement. I usually point out grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors, punctuation errors, APA formatting errors, and awkward and incomplete sentences. I have always had a knack for seeing and hearing proper writing mechanics, so now I really just need to focus on learning the rules of punctuation use and what the different parts of speech are called.

Life is really busy right now, which is fine, but I truly do want to get organized so that I don’t feel pressured to get things done in my spare time. I finally sent Dan to the store on Thursday because I had not been grocery shopping since we got here. Now we at least have a few things in the pantry besides the canned goods I brought with me. I promise that once the house is put together, I will take pictures, but right now it still looks a bit like a tornado ripped through it. I took a short break to drink a cup of coffee on my screened porch, but now it’s time to get back to work. I will write again when I have a free minute.

Hi Tammy, sounds like you are super busy. Now that you are working all day, you really have to make the most of your time. Daniel and Melinda are moving in this weekend. They already have their room set up in my former craft room. I had to move a lot of my things out to the garage but it is ok. It forces me to get rid of more things and stay more organized. I hope we can touch base this weekend. Hugs
