Finally Slowing Down

by Tammy on July 9, 2018

Life has settled down considerably; so much so that I can hardly think of anything new to write about. This past weekend was my first without school assignments to write since before the move, so I spent some time cleaning house and just being lazy. Yesterday we gave Emma a haircut, and that was about the only constructive thing I did all day. We got quite a bit of rain yesterday. It rained or drizzled all morning and most of the afternoon. I love days when that happens.

I mentioned in a previous post that we’d had some air conditioner issues. Well, a few days ago I noticed that our thermostat wasn’t on again, so Dan fiddled around with the switch that prevents the water from flooding the house and he discovered that our furnace was installed at a bit of an angle, which causes water to preferentially go into the pipe where the switch is. He created a fix that seems to be working well, so we saved some money on another A/C service call. It sure is nice to have a handy guy in the house.

Tomorrow we are getting a bid for gutters. A lot of houses don’t have gutters down here, but the water that beats down off the roof wreaks havoc on the mulch around the bushes in our front yard, and there are divots all around the house from erosion. Our house isn’t huge, so I don’t anticipate that it will cost a fortune. We probably could wait until next year, but we might as well get it done and just be done with it. We also have an exterminator coming tomorrow. The bugs are big in the South. I had a very large wolf spider friend hanging out on my back porch with me last night. Normally I don’t mind spiders, but when they are nearing the size of my palm, I get a little creeped out. I’ve also seen cockroaches in the garage, and yesterday Dan said that was one in the furnace closet, so that was the last straw for me. I can deal with them hanging out in the garage, but when they come into my house, they are no longer welcome. Slowly but surely we are getting all of our tasks done.

Other than that, not much is going on. I still really like my job. Today went really fast because I had twelve papers in my queue and I took several phone calls. I had a couple of papers that I didn’t get to today, so they will be waiting for me in the morning. I think I am getting better at reviewing the papers and at being on the phones. There is a definite learning curve, but I think that for only having work worked there for two months, I am doing okay. I also love seeing April every day. She works on the same floor that I do, but on the opposite end and across the hall. I can get to her desk in less than a minute, and I will sometimes stop by to see her when I go to the bathroom. She will also come visit me if she needs a break. It’s a pretty laid back environment overall, which is really nice.

Ben still hasn’t found a job. I sure would appreciate prayers for him in that area. He’s had five interviews and five rejections. I know he’s frustrated and wonders what is wrong with him. We told him that he would have to change his appearance to look more professional, and now I think he finally believes us. I just pray that something comes up soon.

Speaking of work, morning comes pretty quickly, so I should probably go and get ready for bed. I tend to crawl into bed around 10:00, but rarely turn out the lights until around 11:00. I can survive on seven hours of sleep, but I really should try to get at least another half and hour every night. I think I’d feel better. Have a good night, friends! I’ll visit blogs tomorrow.
