I made it through another week. Unfortunately, I have papers to write this weekend, but I still plan to have some fun. Yesterday after work I went to a Mexican restaurant with my supervisor. I had a really nice time getting to know her. We spent a good two and a half hours chatting before she had to leave to pick up food for her kids. After I got home and put the birds to bed, Ben pulled the telescope out and showed us Saturn, Jupiter, Mars, and the moon. It was the first time I’d seen them through the telescope and to be honest, I was blown away. I’ve seen hundreds of images in books and on the internet in my lifetime; those big, beautifully enhanced ones that show all the colored bands and the intricacies of the ring system, but to see that tiny little ringed image floating by in my own telescope took my breath away. Jupiter was cool, too, because I could see the banding on the planet, and the full moon was awesome to behold. Mars was a bit disappointing, but only because it was a bit fuzzy and because there are not many features visible with such a low powered telescope. I enjoyed viewing it with my naked eye more, but I’m glad I got to see it regardless.

Today we are going to make a quick trip to the beach. I want to go around 10:00 a.m. so I have some time this afternoon to work on my paper. Tonight Dan and I are going to a customer appreciation event that the realtor who helped us buy our house is sponsoring. His wife used to work at CSU, but I’ve not met her yet, so I am looking forward to putting a face with the name. He is providing food and bowling, lol. I have not bowled in years, so that should be fun–or embarrassing, lol.

Sometimes I look at myself and I see a completely different person than I saw when I lived in Nebraska. I tried to make friends at the places where I worked when I lived there, but it was difficult because 1) I never really clicked enough with any of them to want to spend time with them outside of work, and 2) I really didn’t enjoy going out that much when I lived up there. Now I want to get out and meet people and make friends and do things. I am not exactly sure what changed, but I speculate that perhaps it is because I’m really, truly happy now. Even though I do not enjoy waking up at 6:00 a.m. five days a week, I do not dread going to work. I enjoy my job and the people I work with. I get to see my daughter every day and I am slowly meeting people who work in different departments. Even Dan comments frequently that he is glad I am happy. Last night he said it and I told him that I’m just happy I’m not cold anymore. :P Actually, last week we went to Ruby Tuesday for the salad bar and I came out of the restaurant freezing. Dan was like, “Seriously?” So I put my hand on his bare back and he squealed. Yes, I will always be cold, but at least the winters are short here.

I will not be cold today, though. We are heading toward 90° and right now it is sunny and beautiful. But that will likely change later. It’s funny how it can go from blindingly sunny and bright to raining in literally minutes. That happened earlier this week. Dan and I were sitting on the back porch and the sun was is the western sky (my back porch faces west). It was blinding me, so Dan hung a paper towel over the place where the sun was shining in (very ingenious, if you ask me :p ), but as soon as he hung it, clouds rolled in and it was raining within a few minutes. I kid you not, the change can be rapid. That is one thing that I really enjoy about living down here: the copious amounts of rain that we get. I actually need to empty my rain gauge today. I think I emptied it two weeks ago and now there have to be at least three inches of water in it. I can water one of my plants with it. I really want to set up a rain barrel so I always have plant water. We are supposed to get gutters soon; well, if I can ever convince Dan to contact the installer. I tell ya, if you want something done, you just have to do it yourself, lol!

Well, I supposed I should start putting together a paper for my class. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend!

Hi Tammy, I am glad you are happy and meeting new people. You are in a new season of your life. Sounds like you found the right job for you and seeing April is a plus. I saw the pictures you posted on FB and they were great! Send some of your rain this way. It will be in the 90’s all week. In fact I think the whole month has been in the 90’s+ Hope you post some pictures of your house soon. Hugs
