Fantastic Weekend

by Tammy on August 25, 2018

I hope y’all are enjoying your weekend. Mine has been very nice so far. Yesterday after work I went with a work friend to have an early dinner, and then when I got home Dan and I met April and Ben at the beach. It was a beautiful evening! The waves were gentle and the sunset was gorgeous. After the sun set, the Gulf looked like a painting. It was bathed in pastels and the nearly-full moon was glistening off the water. I have more pictures on my phone, but here are two that I shared on FB.

I slept really well last night and slept in an hour longer than normal. At around 11:00 Dan asked if I wanted to go back to the beach. Dumb question! (Yes, there is such a thing. :P) So went down for about an hour and then we grabbed lunch and went to Walmart, where we bought stuff to cook on the grill for dinner. We also bought a new fire pit (we left our old one in Omaha) and I bought a citronella plant and a spearmint plant. April came over for dinner and then she left to meet some friends for bowling, so now I’m sitting on my back porch watching the last rays of sunlight fade. After they do, I will probably take a shower so I don’t have to do it in the morning before church.

Of course, the busy day today meant that I got no school work done, so I will be scrambling tomorrow. I wish I wasn’t such a colossal procrastinator. I always get done, but I stress myself out in the process. Dan wants me to take two classes during the winter session that starts in January because we will be less inclined to want to go to the beach, but I hate the thought of being that busy. I guess I’ll see how I feel in December.

I am still so in awe of the fact that I live near the Gulf. It still blows my mind that when I open the blinds in the bird room, I see a palm tree in my front yard. I drive for 15 minutes and I am at the shore line. I have little lizards running around on my front porch. I get asked all the time if I am “on vacation,” and I can proudly say, “Nope! I live here!”

Not only are my surroundings awesome, but I have a bona fide social life now. I tried really hard to make connections with people at my church and my jobs in Omaha, but I just never could find an “in.” Now I have things going on all the time. Wednesday night Dan and I are meeting a couple who works at CSU for dinner. I work with the lady and Dan works closely with the guy. I think I’ve mentioned them before. On Friday after work we are going to one of the math specialist’s house for a cook out and fellowship. On Saturday we are planning to go watch the band of a friend of mine’s husband play at a club. And the fact that April has a social life is totally astounding to me. She has always been such an introverted hermit that I never thought she’d want friends. She was always content to hang out in her room and draw or look through her Tumblr feed. Today, before she came over for dinner, she went to the one-year birthday party of a friend’s daughter. That is not something she would have done a year ago. She has thrived down here. We all have, except for Ben. Unfortunately, he still has not found a job. I know it is deflating for him, so if y’all could keep him in your prayers, I sure would appreciate it!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

Hi Tammy, so happy for you and April! I will be praying for Ben. How far are you from New Orleans? Renee says she wants to go there when she turns 30. Good idea to start school in the winter. Enjoy the holidays! Hugs

Hi Tammy! Ya know, when I worked at the Elementary school, I never really found a group of friends I was comfortable with. I have found a huge group of friends at the primary school. God makes these things happen. I am so happy for you that you are living there and for me that I get to see your pictures. Hee, hee. Have a nice week! I will be praying for Ben! God has something special for him! ((BIG HUGS))!!
