Hurricane Gordon

by Tammy on September 4, 2018

It was a dark and stormy night…ha ha, I have always wanted to say that. Truthfully, it is a dark and stormy night. Tropical Storm Gordon is getting ready to make landfall. There is still a chance that it will reach hurricane strength before it hits the Mississippi coast, but it will not make that much difference; it is going to be windy and rainy regardless. So far we have not gotten a ton of rain, but it is supposed to rain all night. I have been sitting out on my screened porch for a couple of hours. It really is like a room in my house. I told Dan I would like to put a television out here so that we can watch the news on nights like tonight.

CSU let us off at 11:00 a.m., even though we probably could have worked until at least 2:00 or 3:00. I got very little done this morning. First, Omega went down. Omega is the database we use to work. It was not down long, but long enough to mess up my flow. The Waldorf side of Omega was up, so I worked on a paper on that side, but I could not send it back to the student because my email password expired, so I had to have tech support reset it. So, in three hours I got three papers done. Oh well, there is always tomorrow, but we do not have to go in until 11:00 a.m, so I do not need to rush out of here.

I probably never mentioned that CSU owns Waldorf University, which is in Forest City, Iowa. Waldorf has a staff of people in a different building in Orange Beach who take care of admissions and student issues, but the Success Center for CSU does the math and writing stuff for Waldorf because there are not enough requests to make it worth CSU’s while to hire people for that job. Every week I get about two or three request, so that means that roughly 30 requests come in every week, compared to hundreds on the CSU side. There are ten writing specialists and on Mondays and Tuesday we can have around 10 to 12 requests each on top of emails that come into the email rotation and phone calls that come in. Tuesdays are usually busy phone days because assignments are due on Tuesdays. I am not sure what tomorrow will be like since assignments were due today and we only worked three hours on top of not working yesterday. We will likely have a lot of requests each day this week.

Well, I was just notified that Gordon became a hurricane. I have to admit that this storm is a bit more impressive than Ida was back in 2009. We moved to Fairhope during Ida that year and I was amazed that everything shut down for a storm that was less intense than the run-of-the-mill thunderstorms we would get in the Midwest, but I can understand why. One never knows just how potent a storm will actually be until it hits, because there are so many factors to consider.

Well, I am about ready to call it a night. I hope you all have a great rest of the week.

Hi Tammy, I hope everything turned out well for you. I bet your grass is super green. Send some rain over here. It us so dry over here. I am so looking forward to Hawaii and I am hoping we don’t get to much rain when we are there. Have a great week! Hugs
