Back on the Wagon

Hello friends! I am sorry I haven’t updated lately. There just isn’t a whole lot going on here at the moment. Right now I am just content. I’ve settled into a routine and amazingly, I am not bored with it. I’ve been at my job for 4 1/2 months and I still really like it. I think I am getting better at it, and I know it is making me a better writer. I still haven’t had my 3 month review, lol. I guess they forgot about me. But, I haven’t heard any complaints about the way I do my job, and I assume that if I was doing something wrong, they would most certainly tell me. I’ll take no news as good news.

I still try to get to the beach at least once a week. Last weekend we went twice. We went on Friday evening and then we went on Saturday night so that Ben could show us the Milky Way. He has been doing some sky photography and he was excited to show us the sky over the ocean. It was very beautiful and peaceful. Tomorrow is my and Dan’s 28th anniversary and I told him I want to spend some time at the beach during the day. It is supposed to be hot, so it will be a good day to be there. There is a restaurant down on the beach road called Picnic Beach and it has several vegan options, so we are going there for dinner. I am excited to try it out. I think I am going to get the BBQ jackfruit sandwich with sweet potato mash. CSU is trying to get Picnic Beach to bring a food truck a couple of times a month and if they do, I will probably order from them. I normally don’t eat much at lunch time, but I would totally support a healthy choice at work.

This past Monday I decided to get serious about getting healthy again. Once the house went up for sale in February, my vegan diet went out the window, and now I’ve outgrown my favorite pants. I figured once we settled in down here that I would get back on the wagon, but working all day and not having a plan for dinner was not conducive to healthy living; nor were all the food days at work or the dinner dates with work friends to a yummy Mexican restaurant that has awesome margarita specials. So anyway, Dan and I decided that it is time to get back to a healthy lifestyle before he ends up back in the hospital and I end up having to buy a new wardrobe. We cut out alcohol and I started eating vegan again. I am also doing intermittent fasting. I don’t eat until at least 11:00 a.m. and I don’t eat after 6:00 p.m. I also gave up coffee because the creamer was not vegan nor did I need the extra calories, so I have been drinking kombucha tea at work. It helps me not think about food until 11:00. I usually break my fast with carrots and hummus, and then when I take lunch at 1:30 p.m., I am not really hungry, so I don’t eat again until dinner.

One thing I have to work back into my routine is walking. I do not get much exercise at all now that I work. I sit on my butt all day. I asked for a standing desk, but I am not sure I will get it because my work station is a bit different than most people’s. I have a tablet on top of the two computer monitors. The tablet is for “writing” on students’ papers. I can write comments and mark punctuation and I can also add typed comments on the side of their papers. Sometime, if a student’s paper is really poorly written, I run out of room to type, so I have to utilize the pen feature to make comments. It’s a pretty nice set up. But anyway, having the tablet makes it difficult to configure a standing desk, so I guess I’ll have to wait and see if they can figure something out. Standing would be better than sitting all day.

Other than that, there is not much else to tell. I am going to get a pedicure in the morning. It’s been over two months and I am long overdue. I also have a discussion board post to write sometime this weekend. It’s really due today, but my professor doesn’t downgrade for being late, so I am not going to worry about it too much. Next weekend my last set of papers is due and then I will have a break until mid-October. I’m looking forward to that!

Hi Tammy! I think I missed somewhere exactly what you do and who you work for. Is this a university you are working with students? I just cannot remember.
I think it is awesome you get to go to the beach every week. I had a dream last night that we went on a beach vacation, but it was in California. I would much rather come down to Orange Beach again.
Happy Anniversary! ((BIG HUGS))!!

Hi Tammy, Belated Happy Anniversary. Remember the days we left each other cards when we had websites? I understand you wanting to eat healthy again. Why not a modified diet with some meat? We eat mostly chicken and fish. We have red meat about 4 times a month. I am trying to eat more things with calcium. When I was working I got to take a 10 minute break every hour as per my dr. Sometimes I would go longer if I worked more than an hour. I did a lot of walking when I was working. It would have been good for me to have worked until age 62. I would not be in my situation I am today with the osteoporosis. I updated me blog today too. Going to change over to fall in a few days. Have a great weekend. Hugs
