Mostly Happy News

by Tammy on October 23, 2018

Happy Tuesday morning! I am sitting on my porch listening to the rain this morning. This is the first rain we’ve had all month. I heard that October is the driest month we have, and the weathermen weren’t kidding. It is a very light rain, but there is a lot of it on radar, so it will be a soggy drive to work. That’s OK, though, because rain makes me happy.

I actually had a really happy day overall yesterday, too, except for one incident that wasn’t so great. My workmate, Billie’s husband went in for a procedure and they found something concerning. She hid it well, but I could tell she was upset, so I encouraged her to go home. I told her I’d take her papers for her, and she finally did leave a couple of hours early. The results won’t be in for a week, so I am praying for peace and comfort for them. They trust the Lord, so whatever happens, I know that they know He is in control.

Now on to the good news. Ben finally got a job! He interviewed at the new Lodge down on the beach and they hired him as a room attendant. It is a new hotel/convention center that is opening on November 1st. CSU is holding its Fall Bash there. Fall Bash is a party that CSU throws every year right before Thanksgiving for its employees. We are also having our Christmas party there in December. The job is full-time, which is a huge blessing since Ben’s time on our insurance ends at the end of this month. It’s definitely not his dream job, but it’s something, and if he gets in there and proves himself, then perhaps he can move up into something closer to what he’s been going to school for. I am just thankful that someone finally gave him a chance (pending his background check, which of course will not be an issue).

Today I have my bio-metric testing at 10:00 a.m. CSU gives a discount on health insurance if the employee submits to a physical, and they are hosting an on-site mini-physical today. I think it’s just weight, blood pressure, and a finger poke to check some blood results. It’s a ten minute appointment, so it cannot be too in-depth. Tomorrow is our team lunch, and we are ordering in from a sushi place. I tried to get a hold of the restaurant last night to inquire about whether a couple of their menu items are vegan, but I got a voicemail full message, so I will try again today to see if there is anything I can eat. I might just skip it and bring my own lunch to be on the safe side, though. Tomorrow night we are taking Ben to dinner at Habañeros, so it will already be a less than stellar day. I do not want to completely get off track. Dan and I have been walking every day, but that won’t save a bad food day. Yesterday I ate collard greens to break my fast at noon and then wasn’t hungry for lunch, so when I got home I ate some sun kissed melon and made a big salad and a couple of potatoes for dinner. After our walk last night, I felt really hungry, so I came home and ate a mandarin and some frozen mango. It was well past my eating time, but I was really hungry and I probably didn’t eat many calories yesterday. This morning, I drank a cup of coffee with some vanilla soy milk. I haven’t drank coffee for months, but it sounded good on this cool, rainy Tuesday.

For the rest of the week, I have two meetings on Thursday. One is my first rounding meeting, which most writing specialists have monthly with the assistant director of the Success Center. I’ve been there almost six months and this is my first one. I guess it’s just a “check-in” type meeting. I’m not concerned. My second meeting is with him and the director and my direct supervisor to discuss a project that I and my supervisor have been working on. And then it’s Friday! I have papers to write this weekend, so I may try to get a start on one of them tonight. I’ll see how I feel after work today. Yesterday we had 171 papers submitted. I think I did 12 or 13, plus a half an hour phone call with a student. It was a fairly productive day. Today will be busy, too, but it will make the day go fast.

Well, I suppose I should wrap this up and get ready for work. I had no idea that I had so much to say. Oh, BTW, my almost 18 year old dog is getting close to the end of her life, and we are going to have to make a decision soon about her fate. She is having a tough time getting around and has lots of accidents in the house. Plus she paces the floor much of the night. I can hear her nails clicking on the tile. I do not want to let her get so bad that she is in severe pain, but it’s hard to know how soon is too soon and how late is too late. I’d appreciate prayers for discernment. She’s been around since right around April’s 10th birthday, and April is now 27. Hailey has had a long and happy life.

Have a great Tuesday!

Hi Tammy, I am sorry about Hailey but I do understand. Congrats to Ben! Sounds like things are going well at your job. I love the rain too, but it is not good for the drivers. You can probably get a California roll without the crab when you order your Sushi. I can’t do all or nothing. I can do a little. Have a great week. Hugs!

Hi Tammy! I am so sorry to hear about Hailey! We are having to go through the same process with Mandy right now because of her degenerative myolopethy. I still feel like her quality of life is still good, so we wait a little longer.
I am so happy for Ben!! That is super great news! I hope he will love his new job!
I pray your co-worker’s husband will be ok. How scary!
Have a nice week! ((BIG HUGS))!!
